Sautéed in olive oil & Tony Chachere’s, finished with butter. Tasted quite good actually, I was pleasantly surprised. Couldn’t really get over the mental block so I didn’t finish them 🙁 First, froze them to humanely kill them. Washed in vinegar then removed the wings, legs, and heads, which helped but still felt a bit like gagging. Boiled for a couple minutes in salted water before pan frying. Glad I tried it still!

I mean people eat it as a delicacy elsewhere in the world, so I guess it’s fine.

  2. Best way to cook them is in a high heat wok, they’ll have a nice crunchy texture

When I was a cub scout one of the other scouts ate one raw and said it tasted like peanut butter

If there was a way to obscure the insect shape, these would probably be really really good.

I’m just glad you humanly killed them. Still gross tho lol

I’ve always wanted to try them! A couple years ago we had cicadas EVERYWHERE, the ones that emerge every 17 years or so and are so loud you can hear them from indoors. IDK why I didn’t try them then, I’ve heard they remind people of shrimp? What did you think?
I’m gonna be exiled for admitting all this haha but I’ve had bugs, I’ve had grasshopper, ants, and a type of beetle, I forget the name.
A place near me sells grasshopper tacos and I like them! I am aware this makes most people uncomfortable lol. This post needs more upvotes bc it def belongs here based off general public reaction

These things lived in the ground 18 years for this?

You can come to my inlaws house and eat all you want. They got too damn many.

  10. Good on you for trying it honestly. I wouldn’t have been able to, but I think your openmindedness is admirable

I had a couple handfuls of seasoned roasted crickets in Southeast Asia… The flavor profile was exactly like roasted peanuts, the texture however was exactly like fingernails
